About me

Hello, I'm  Jay Stelling

Queen of the Thistle-folk, collector of things and maker of dolls.

You can often find me making my tiny dolls in a little attic studio with my partner and graphic designer James and our two fluffy cats in North Yorkshire.

I’ve always been fascinated by fairies and folklore. Most of my work centres around charming characters and children’s stories, such as fairy tales and Yorkshire legends.

I graduated in 2018 from Leeds Arts University with a First in BA(hons) Illustration. I’m now working on making a series of children’s books using puppet illustration techniques.

Using paper mache, wire and mixed media, I make handmade dolls and creatures which are completely unique. They have been published in Art Doll Quarterly and Dolls House and Miniature Scene Magazine as well as feautring on Channel 4 in December 2018 when I was a contestant on Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas.
